Ulnar Nerve Subluxation

Test, Exam and Sign Description

During flexion of the elbow, it may be possible to note subluxation of the ulnar nerve over the medial epicondyle.

Definition of Positive Result
  • Subluxation of the ulnar nerve over the medial epicondyle will be seen with flexion of the elbow.
Definition of Negative Result
  • No subluxation of the ulnar nerve over the medial epicondyle will be seen with flexion of the elbow.
Comments and Pearls
  • Ulnar nerve subluxation over the medial epicondyle can be asympyomatic.
  • Ulnar nerve subluxation over the medial epicondyle can cause pain.
  • Ulnar nerve subluxation over the medial epicondyle can be associated with cubital tunnel syndrome.
