Patient #5 Objectives

The student will…

…Be able to make a differential diagnosis for a patient complaining of pain after a fall on the outstretched hand.

…Be able to ask the patient appropriate historical questions for the chief complaint of "fall on the hand."

…Know and be able to perform physical exam maneuvers needed for all components of the differential diagnosis for Patient #5.

…Be able to order the proper ancillary tests and appropriately evaluate the test results to confirm or rule out a distal radius fracture (Colles' Fracture), distal radius Salter II fracture, and/or scaphoid fracture of the wrist.

…Be able to construct and prioritize a treatment plan containing all appropriate therapeutic options for distal radius fracture (Colles' Fracture), distal radius Salter II fracture, and/or scaphoid fracture of the wrist.

…Be able to define distal radius fracture (Colles' Fracture), distal radius Salter II fracture, and/or scaphoid fracture of the wrist and identify pertinent related anatomy, pathogenic factors, the incidence and related conditions associated with each of these diagnoses.
