The student will…
…Be able to make a differential diagnosis for a patient complaining of inability to straighten/move their contracted/locked finger(s).
…Be able to ask the patient appropriate historical questions for the chief complaint of "can't straighten fingers."
…Know and be able to perform physical exam maneuvers needed for all components of the differential diagnosis for Patient #2.
…Be able to order proper ancillary tests and appropriately evaluate the test results to confirm or rule out Dupuytren's contracture, locking trigger fingers, or tendon rupture secondary to rheumatoid arthritis.
…Be able to construct and prioritize a treatment plan containing all appropriate therapeutic options for Dupuytren's contracture, trigger fingers, or ruptured extensor tendons.
…Be able to define Dupuytren's contracture, trigger fingers, or ruptured extensor tendons and identify pertinent related anatomy, pathogenic factors, the incidence and related conditions associated with each of these diagnoses.
